BLOOMINGTON – About $1.7 million worth of sewer work could be approved Monday night by the Bloomington City Council.
Public Works Director Jim Karch explained the city is trying to be more proactive with its sewer maintenance.
“We don’t have that great handle on our sewers like we do with our streets. Many times we maybe want really want streets, we at least have ratings on them all of them and we have a plan to be able to address them,” said Karch. “With our sewers there’s still a lot of unknowns.”
Hoerr Construction would be the contractor for the work, which would begin in about 30 days if the City Council gives its approval. Karch explained even after this only about 13 percent of the city’s sewers will have been rated.
Also on Monday, the council will consider approving a Tax Increment Financing district in the southwest portion of downtown.
