BLOOMINGTON – McLean County Clerk Kathy Michael gives no credit to Donald Trump’s comments saying the election is being rigged in favor of Hillary Clinton.
Michael told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin there are checks and balances in place to make sure problems such as voter fraud do not occur.
“Every hour, or as often as you can when it gets crazy busy, every two hours, you have to balance or count your votes,” said Michael. “You go to the machines, they all have to add up with the signatures that you have received during the day.”
Michael added every election office is also audited after an election to ensure the records match up.
As for Trump’s comments about the number of dead people registered to vote, Michael explained election officials do go through and update their records to avoid that issue as best they can.
