BLOOMINGTON – A motorcyclist is in serious condition following a crash with a First Student school bus on Monday morning.

McLean County Sheriff’s Police say Chris Beck, 33, of Bloomington struck the front of a school bus with 21 students on board, but no one on the bus was hurt.

The crash happened at about 6:50 a.m. near the intersection of Hazel and Bunn streets in Bloomington.

Police say Beck was traveling southbound on Bunn Street when he collided with the bus that was turning southbound onto Bunn Street from Hazel Street.

Beck is listed in serious condition at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington. He was also ticketed for reckless driving and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Unit 5 spokeswoman Dayna Brown said the Cedar Ridge Elementary students were all checked out by paramedics and were all determined to be unhurt.

Brown added the district contacted parents to notify them of the crash and that district and school administrators were on scene.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

In these troubled times, to my fellow white Americans

By Mike Matejka Our nation is at a unique watershed in human relations. African-Americans have been killed too many times in the past before George Floyd, but the response to this man’s death is international and all-encompassing. I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
