BLOOMINGTON – The Executive Director of the U.S. Cellular Coliseum has been fired by VenuWorks, the company in charge of operating the Coliseum.
VenuWorks said in a press release Curtis Webb was let go for committing fraud while operating the Coliseum. The company said it discovered and confirmed an unauthorized usage of a company debit card.
In an email from Peters to Blomington City Manager David Hales, Peters said the company will immediately reimburse the city for the lost funds. The initial estimate is about $16,000.
Hales said in a news release the city continues to be pleased with how VenuWorks is managing the Coliseum, despite being “disappointed and saddened” with Webb’s actions.
“VenuWorks’ corporate team discovered the issue early and took corrective action swiftly,” said Hales. “This is exactly why we hired them and trust them to manage the Coliseum.”
City Attorney Jeff Jurgens said in the same release this situation is unrelated to the ongoing investigation by Illinois State Police into operations at the Coliseum before April 1.
VenuWorks has begun an immediate search to replace Webb.
