BLOOMINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) brought some strong words Thursday when asked about House Speaker Paul Ryan saying he won’t defend remarks by Donald Trump.
“I think, right now, I would tell Donald Trump to shut the hell up, with regard to Ryan; that this is not productive,” said Kirk. “As you know, I’m not a fan of Donald Trump.”
Kirk added it is possible for the GOP to repair itself once the election is over.
“It centers itself on its key principals of being fiscal conservatives and national security hogs,” said Kirk. “Those policies are so self evident that we can rebuild a future for America based on solid financial grounds and a secure America.”
Kirk faces a re-election challenge from U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth (R-Chicago). Kirk told students at Illinois Wesleyan University the state needs a senator who wants to spend less and tax less, not the opposite – which is what he claimed Duckworth wants.
