SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Bruce Rauner and Illinois Public Health Director Dr. Nirav Shah are urging Illinoisans to roll up their sleeves and get a flu shot.
Shah said he hopes no one underestimates the power of influenza.
“Every year in Illinois, thousands of people get the flu and thousands of people die from the flu,” Shah said. “A lot of people think the flu is the same thing as the common cold. It is nothing like the common cold.”
Rauner was on hand to get his flu shot after Shah’s remarks.
“Unfortunately, many people are killed by the flu, elderly people, people with weakened immune systems,” Rauner said. “We need to keep everybody safe and healthy. The flu shot really helps. It matters. Get it done.”
Public Health officials say everyone six months and older should get their flu shot.
