BLOOMINGTON – Illinois Wesleyan University’s homecoming week has been filled with activities for students and now the weekend will see IWU alumni return to campus.
IWU Director of Alumni Engagement Adriane Powell said some of these former students have not been back to campus for 50 years.
“Last year we had about 1,600 who registered for events and then we know that there were many more than that showed up without letting us know,” said Powell. “Which is always a good surprise.”
Powell added Denny Matthews, the current voice of the Kansas City Royals, is this year’s distinguished alum winner.
“He’ll be doing the Back-to-College class tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 8:30 a.m., also at Ames Library,” said Powell. “We welcome everybody to come and talk about his journey from Normal to Kansas City and the Baseball Hall of Fame.”
Matthews graduated IWU in 1966.
