BLOOMINGTON – A member of the Bloomington Planning Commission is making a run at the City Council.
J. Alan Balmer is challenging Ward 3 incumbent Mboka Mwilambwe in the April 2017 election. Balmer has been on the Planning Commission for five years and has been vice chairman since earlier this year.
He told WJBC’s Terry James the divisiveness on the council has improved in recent years, but it can still be better.
“I’ve got a fairly feasible history in terms of consensus building over the years and I think that I can continue to do that on the City Council,” Balmer said.
Balmer added he wants to see Bloomington’s comprehensive plan put in place the way it was intended.
“I also want to make sure that we proceed in a growth period that makes sense for all of Bloomington and not just for parts of Bloomington,” he said.
Mwilambwe has been on the council since being appointed to the position in March 2011.
