BLOOMINGTON – There are people facing tough decisions and living in poverty everyday in our community.
A poverty simulation event is being held next Thursday at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in west Bloomington.
Linda Bollivar with the Multicultural Leadership program said you’ll leave with a new perspective. When she went through the program she ended up making a decision she never thought she would have to make.
“Basically, I ended up having my teenager stay home from school to watch the kids so that I could go to work so that our house didn’t get foreclosed,” said Bolliver. “I grew up in a family where education was primary and if you would of asked me if I would ever believe in having your children stay home and babysit so a parent could work, I would say no.”
Bollivar said she will never judge another person for making those types of decisions after going through the poverty simulation.
Registration ends Tuesday at noon. You can sign up for the simulation at the Multicultural Leadership Program website or Facebook page.
