NORMAL – There has been major movement by Unit five Superintendent Mark Daniel in the continual busing problems that have been taking place in the district.
Transportation provider First Student has agreed to increase the substitute driver numbers from 10-percent to 20-percent.
“And we are working on some other avenues with Heartland Community College would be an example, basically getting in front of potential CDL drivers in that training process,” said Daniel. “We continue to examine other routes, i.e. how do I create a substitute pool.”
He is also meeting with Peoria Charter Service Thursday to find out if they would be able to help transport kids to and from school. Daniel admits that service would be more expensive.
The Unit five school board meeting is at Normal West Wednesday night.
