BLOOMINGTON – More than 250 people are calling the McLean County Jail home these days and that means some are being moved out to other facilities.
McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage told WJBC News says problems of overcrowding should be alleviated when the jail expansion is complete.
“Sometimes it is cyclical,” said Sandage. “There is nothing at this time that we can really point a finger at other than some aren’t available to make bond and some of the inmates are sentence inmates that are doing their time so there’s no particular trend right now.”
Jail capacity is 225 and Sandage said more than 250 could cause safety issues. Inmates being held at other facilities carry a charge to taxpayers of $50-dollars per day per inmate.
