West, U-High win first games

BLOOMINGTON – Normal West and University high schools football teams posted their first wins of the season Friday night,

The host Wildcats shut out Champaign Centennial, 20-0, in Big 12 Conference play while U-High topped IVC, 32-21, in Corn Belt play.

The Wildcats scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to post their first win against two losses and evened their Big 12 Conference record at 1-1.

Holden Lueck returned a pass interception 35 yards for the Wildcats’ first touchdown with 8:40 left in the game and Genesis Forrest added a 6-yard TD run a little over a minute later for a 14-0 lead,

West’s final TD came on a 33-yard pass from Lueck 33-yard run with 2:42 left. Matt Lage, had two of three conversion kicks.

Quarterback Peyton Dillingham was 2 for 11 for 33 yards, while Forrest rushed for 109 yards on 30 carries.

U High 32, IVC 21

The Pioneers jumped to a 32-0 first half lead and cruised to Coach Trevor Von Breuchenhein’s first victory as a head coach. Both teams are 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the Corn Belt Conference.

U High’s Nick Sakowicz had 43 yards on 16 carries, while quarterback Doug Holmes completed 14 of 22 passes for 177 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for one touchdown.

Central 34, LeSalle-Peru 32

The Saints rallied scored two touchdowns in the final seven minutes to win at LaSalle-Peru. Max Moews threw a 7-yard scoring pass to Bobby Brady with about 4 minutes to go. Moews scored the game winner from 1 yard out after a fumble recovery to lead the Saints to victory.

Peoria Notre Dame 21, NCHS 14

The No. 4 state-ranked Iromen committed five turnovers in their first loss of the season. The Ironmen had a chance to win the game, but ran out of time in the red zone,

Notre Dame running back Caleb Haisler had 272 yards yards on 52 carries, while NCHS quarterback Grant Price was 11 of 24 passing for  106 yards. He was intercepted twice

NCHS running back Vershaun Dixon scored two touchdowns on 22 carries for 150 yards.

U High 32, IVC 21
