NORMAL – Unit 5’s busing problems continue.
Superintendent Mark Daniel told WJBC’s Terry James First Student, which provides the district’s transportation, had 18 absent drivers Thursday morning. The result was some buses arriving 90 minutes to two hours late.
“We’ve been asking them, this has to be solved,” said Daniel. “We cannot continue to have students arriving to school late. They need to be in the classroom so they can get their education. So it’s that simple.”
Unit 5 has been experiencing late and overcrowded buses since the first day of school.
“It seems like we’re continuously trying to move this problem and it’s as if we’re pushing this uphill,” Daniel said.
The district sent a message to the parents of the students who would have late buses on Thursday; however some parents said that message was sent after the buses scheduled arrival time.
