SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Bruce Rauner is celebrating the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary.
While Illinois may not have the sprawling national parks seen out west, he says the Land of Lincoln has plenty to be proud of.
“We here in Illinois are very blessed. We have five incredible National Park sites with the best being right here, Lincoln’s home, right here in Springfield,” Rauner told a gathering at the former home of the 16th president.
The other national parks in Illinois are Pullman national monument in Chicago, the Lewis and Clark National Trial, the Trail of Tears and the Mormon Pioneer National Trail.
Rauner said he has been a long time National Park enthusiast since his first hiking trip to Yellowstone at the age of 14.
