BLOOMINGTON – A men’s championship race ended with bicyclists in the hospital after someone threw thumbtacks on the course at the Bloomington Criterium.
“Some of the racers actually slid out into traffic. We had some wonderful volunteers who took initiative and stopped traffic,” said race director Brandon Beehner. “Unfortunately, I know one individual broke his arm. Some other guys scraped up their hands pretty bad. A couple guys went to the hospital. So this was a pretty bad act of violence.”
Anyone who saw anything is asked to contact Bloomington police.
