NORMAL – U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) wants to see the locks and dams in Illinois rivers widened and he believes he knows the company to oversee the job: Archer Daniels Midland.
It’s part of the Kirk-Durbin amendment which would allow private companies to widen and lengthen those locks and dams.
“If you’ve ever been to Decatur, one of the cool gems of the Illinois economy is the ADM logistic management core there in Decatur,” said Kirk. “It looks like the New York Stock Exchange. I think they are the competent managers.”
Kirk spoke at an agriculture forum this week near Normal. He said improving the flow of traffic on rivers can help the ag industry.
