SPRINGFIELD – 2017 will bring higher prices and fewer choices on the Illinois health insurance marketplace for families who buy their own health coverage.
The Illinois Department of Insurance reports the average rate increase for a typical benchmark plan is 43 percent. U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) is concerned.
“I think many families who were promised the ability to save an average of $2,500 a year when the Affordable Care Act was passed before I got to Washington are not seeing that,” said Davis. “It’s a plan that we need to repeal and replace with one that’s actually going to get families the access to the healthcare they need.”
Davis is the husband of a cancer survivor and said he can relate to Illinois consumers. Selection is also an issue, with only one company offering plans in an eight county area.
