SPRINGFIELD – New statistics say the state’s graduating high school seniors are doing a little better on their ACT exams.
The Illinois State Board of Education says that seniors averaged 20.8 out of 36 points. It’s a marginal increase of a tenth of a percent. ISBE Division of Student Assessment Administrator Angela Foxall said officials still want to see scores increase.
“We are pleased with this progress,” Foxall. “We certainly have a lot of work to improve opportunities for each and every student and we will continue to take advantage of those opportunities. We are outperforming the national average.”
The state’s students also did as well or better than the national average on the English, math and science portions of the exam.
