Dr. Emily C. Schlenker, 77, of Normal, passed away at 6:37 p.m. on Aug. 11.

Emily was a nurse and educator. She taught students at Marycrest College, Tennessee State University, and Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University.

She trained at Augustana College (BA), Lutheran School of Nursing (RN), Marycrest College (BSN), Northern Illinois University (MSN), and University of the Pacific (PsyD). She graduated high school at the Villa de Chantal in Rock Island, IL. She served in the U.S. Army Reserves for seven years.

Emily was born on Feb. 18, 1939 in Moline, a daughter to Charles and Cora Butt Diehl. She married George Schlenker in 1962.

Surviving are her children, Charlie Schlenker (Sarah Curtis) of Normal and Lisa Schlenker (Steve Gillingham) of Milwaukee, Wis.; grandchildren, Benjamin Johnson and Ethan Schlenker; and a cousin, Mary Ann Withers of Arlington, Texas.

A celebration of Emily’s life will be at Satio, 306 N. Center St., Bloomington at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 29. Memorials may be made to Humane Society of Central Illinois or Neville House. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Emily was fast friends with numerous opinionated felines of upright character; loved horses, gardening, the grandeur of nature, fine wine and food, convivial company, poetry, classical music, and harmonious elegant design in all things.
