NORMAL – The Normal Planning Commission has given its approval to a proposal to turn a vacant lot at 402 N. Main St. into student housing.
The lot was formerly home to a gas station and Town Planner Mercy Davison said the lot hasn’t been used since its closing.
“Staff feels like it’s appropriate. It’s a pretty small piece of ground and it’s certainly in the middle of student apartment development,” said Davison. “So we’re comfortable with it.”
The commission unanimously recommended the lot be rezoned from business to residential. The developer is not yet sure how many units would be put into a new building on the property.
The rezoning will go to the Town Council on Aug. 15.
