BLOOMINGTON- The Bloomington Salvation Army is hosting their annual fan drive to keep things cool this summer.
The Bloomington Salvation Army’s Development Director Angie Fulton says that fans are in a huge need as the midwest is heating up.
“We started it last week providing fans specifically for senior or people with medical conditions that warrant a fan” says Development Director Angie Fulton. “This week we opened it up to anybody that needed a fan.”
The Salvation Army started the distribution of fans on July 11th and will continue to provide fans to those who need it.
“We also really need donations, everybody’s budget is tight, and were certainly no different than any other non profit organization” added Development Director Angie Fulton. “So if you are able and willing to go out and purchase a fan and donate to us it would go to someone in need. You can also bring a monetary donation that we can use to purchase fans to give away to the community.”
The Salvation Army is also raising money around the community with holding a one day bell ringing event that raised $1500. You can also see the Salvation Army out at the Corn Crib with bell ringers, raising money for the Christmas time.
Another event that the Salvation Army is holding in bloomington is a month long food drive held through the month of July at all of the Krogers in Bloomington.
“All through July if you are shopping at Kroger in bloomington, they have prepackaged bags you can pick up at the register and purchase that will go to our food pantry” added Development Director Angie Fulton. “Christmans in July is still going for us, so if your shopping at Kroger make sure to look for those.”
Development Director Angie Fulton says that last year was one of there biggest years totaling to 600 fans.
“Last year was one of our biggest years, we gave out 600 fans, that cost a lot of money if we are not getting donations” says Salvation Army Development Director Angie Fulton. “So certainly if you are able to, you can drop that off at 611 W. Washington St. in Bloomington (Salvation Army Corps Building.) You can also go there if you are in need of a fan. You will need to bring an ID and a piece of mail to receive a fan.”
