A Cook County circuit judge has ruled as unconstitutional a citizen initiative to take politicians out of the legislative map-making process in Illinois.
Circuit Court Judge Diane Larsen said the Independent Map Amendment proposes changes to the state Constitution that exceed what citizen-led initiatives can do. Independent Map Coalition Chairman Dennis FitzSimons said the group is disappointed in the ruling and will appeal it directly to the Illinois Supreme Court.
