NORMAL – Police officers in Normal conducted the 6th most DUI related arrests in 2015.
That’s according to the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorist, which does an annual survey DUI arrests in Illinois. In all, NPD carried out 306 DUI arrests for the year. Chief Rick Bleichner said Normal is typically in the top 10.
“It’s a little bittersweet,” said Bleichner. “We’re certainly proud of our efforts that we do out there, but it’s one of those things – you’d like to be in a community where you didn’t have to address DUI.”
The arrests made by NPD in 2015 were a 14 percent increase over 2014.
“We take this as something that’s very serious to us. We always have,” Bleichner said.
Normal also ranked 3rd in the state in arrests per officer, with an arrest rate of just over 3.7 DUI arrests.
