NORMAL – Unit 5 superintendent Mark Daniel welcomes the fact the Illinois State Board of Education will no longer be issuing the PARCC exam and instead will just issue the SAT.
Daniel agreed with those who have said students are being over tested.
“This is going to reduce the amount of testing,” said Daniel. “The SAT is actually a less number of hours as well, so there’s a reduction there.”
Daniel added in the last year high school juniors had to take both exams and the district was only able to provide one of them for free.
“That means that every student, regardless of background – regardless of socioeconomic background – will be provided this test,” said Daniel. “That’s a welcome addition.”
Between the SAT and P-SAT, which is taken by sophomores, Daniel hoped they are now creating a good sequence of tests to see the growth of students.
