TOWANDA – Village officials in Towanda have announced their fireworks show for tonight has been canceled as the fireworks company scheduled to put on the performance was involved in an accident in the Chicago suburbs on Sunday.
Police in Bridgeview told nbcchicago.com two people were injured when a fireworks display prematurely detonated during setup on Sunday afternoon. Both were hospitalized for treatment.
The Bridgeview Fire Department reported one of the workers was severely wounded, suffering second and third-degree burns.
Bridgeview’s fireworks display which was scheduled for Sunday night was also canceled.
Towanda Township supervisor Mark Kraft told WJBC it remains to be seen whether the company will be able to reschedule.
The WJBC Sky Concert at Fairview Park in Normal and Miller Park in Bloomington is still on schedule to begin at dusk.
