BLOOMINGTON – Summer is upon us, and that means the sun heating up cars. But it’s important to make sure that there is nobody left in your car when you leave it.
McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage explained that leaving a dog to the heat in a car can have disastrous counsequences for the animal.
“Fortunately we don’t have a whole lot of those, but when we do have them they tend to be pretty severe,” said Sandage.
Sandage also said to not take matters into your own hands if you see a dog locked in a car, as that could lead to some legal troubles.
“Give us a call. We might have to break out the window but we don’t want you breaking out someone else’s window,” said Sandage.
Sandage is reminding people that while it is fun to take your dog on a walk or to a park, the dog doesn’t have to go everywhere.
The Bloomington Police Department has banned dogs from Miller Park for the fireworks show tonight.
