NORMAL – You might want to consider viewing a public display of fireworks instead of lighting them off on your own. Advocate Bromenn ER Doctor Steve Delis said the fourth of July is a busy time in the emergency room.
“The most common injuries that we see is obviously a burn,” said Delis. “That is over fifty percent of the injuries we see. And the most involved parts are hands and fingers.”
Delis also reminds us about the danger of sparklers given to children. They can burn as hot as 2000 degrees.
Delis said reattaching a limb is almost impossible because of the explosion that goes along with a firework.
The doctor also says drinking alcohol and using fireworks is never a good idea.
