BLOOMINGTON – U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville) toured Home Sweet Home Ministries homeless shelter Tuesday afternoon, specifically to get a firsthand look at the work the group does with veterans.
Davis said he’s heard a bit about what Home Sweet Home does.
“They’re trying to help veterans in our community get access to services that they deserve and that they need,” he said.
Davis said the Department of Veterans Affairs needs to make better decisions, which will help places like Home Sweet Home improve their care.
“We saw another report today that over 40 percent of the texts that are sent to the VA suicide prevention line go unanswered,” said Davis. “That’s unacceptable.”
Davis said the culture at the VA doesn’t seem to be correcting itself. Davis added VA Secretary Robert McDonald told him the VA would be improved, but that hasn’t happened.
