BLOOMINGTON – Bloomington is looking for federal help to fix two major streets.
City Manager David Hales tells WJBC’s Scott Laughlin that Bloomington has applied for a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery, or TIGER, grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to resurface Main and Center streets, but the city has plenty of company.
“There’s only $500 million they’re going to disburse in the next few months,” Hales told WJBC’s Scott Laughlin. “However, there was over $9.3 billion in requests from 585 applications.”
Hales says the federal TIGER grant help is sought to partly to repair some repairs.
“IDOT did some resurfacing and within a year it was falling apart with potholes, a real botched job,” said Hales. “It appeared it may have been too thin of an overlay.”
Hales says final word on the grants is expected before fall.
