SPRINGFIELD – The FFA wrapped up its state convention last week and during the final nighttime session, Gov. Bruce Rauner announced that he was back on the side of reinstating the ag education line item.
The $1.8 million budget line had been zeroed out in past by the governor. The money did make it back into the final K-12 spending plan last year but it was again in doubt for the coming school year. However, Rauner told the crowd that he had gone back to the budget and decided to keep it intact.
“I listened to you and I told our budget guys we are going to put more money in our school system and we are going to restore the special line item for agriculture education here in Illinois,” Rauner said.
That line item and other funding still depends on lawmakers and the governor agreeing on a budget.
