You may be hearing more about missing children in the twin cities.
Bloomington police say you don’t have to wait 24 hours to report a missing child. Many of those children are runaways.
McLean County States Attorney Jason Chambers told WJBC’s Dan Swaney runaway children will not be charged, but those harboring a runaway could face charges.
“Criminal in the legal world is only something that can happen to an adult,” said Chambers. “The juvenile who does it is a deliquent so it wouldn’t ever be criminal against a child.”
Chambers says if you are hearing more about missing children, it’s not because more are running away – the information is being reported across several platforms.
