BLOOMINGTON – The first ever United State of Women summit in Washington D.C. this week featured a local voice.
Kim Wells is the executive director of the Corporate Alliance to End Partner Violence, which is based in Bloomington. She said the summit was aimed at celebrating what they’ve accomplished for gender equality. It featured many high profile guests, such as the president and vice president, the first lady, Oprah, and Warren Buffett.
Wells’ spoke specifically about violence against women.
“A presentation called ‘Changing the Culture to End Violence against Women’ and a solutions seminar talking about corporate American and how corporate America can change the culture,” she said.
Wells said it was an honor to speak to a group of experts from around the country.
“So much of what we talked about was violence, because we talk about violence against women and violence against people,” said Wells. “You couldn’t not talk about Orlando, and you couldn’t not mourn for people, and you couldn’t not talk about how all of this is intertwined.”
Wells added seeing so many important people speak about these issues “lends credence to the fact that these issues matter.”
