EAST PEORIA – A pair of runs by the Oak Park-River Forest Huskies in the tenth inning of the Class 4A State Championship game were too much for the Normal West Wildcats to overcome, and they settled for second place in the state.
Led by senior and Seton Hall commit Reganne Camp, the Wildcats held a 2-1 lead with two outs in the top of the top of the seventh. OPRFHS put one runner on, and then Maeve Nelson drove in the runner with a triple to deep right field. The game stayed tied for three more innings.
Camp stayed on the mound for the Wildcats into the tenth inning. An error by the Wildcats and a walk from Camp put runners on first and second. Fiona Girardot put one into center to score both and put the Huskies ahead 4-2.
Brooklyn Bane grabbed a lead-off single with a bunt in the bottom of the tenth and advanced to third but was unable to score and the Wildcats fell to the Huskies 4-2.
Camp recorded 15 strikeouts on the night with two walks and three earned runs.
Normal West has scheduled a celebration for the team set for 11 a.m. tomorrow.
