NORMAL – There is concern at Unit 5 there will be no state funding flowing to school districts until after November’s election.
That’s the impression Superintendent Mark Daniel had after the governor spoke at the Regional Alternative School in Bloomington this week.
“With that in mind (I’m) asking Marty to look into ways that we will be financing our district if we have no budget and perhaps money is not even flowing to us,” he said.
Daniel added nine of the districts twelve valedictorians and salutatorians are leaving Illinois for college.
“To me that’s a clear indication that something’s awry,” said Daniel. “Not just K-12, but also in for our higher ed.”
Daniel said Illinois has a number of good colleges and universities and they need to figure out how to keep high school graduates in Illinois.
