BLOOMINGTON – The budget stalemate in Springfield continues and Regional Schools Superintendent Mark Jontry said the most cash strapped districts can’t go much longer without knowing what their funding from the state will be.
“They’ve really got to know, I think, by Aug. 1 at the latest,” said Jontry. “That might be cutting it too close anyway.”
Jontry told WJBC’s Dan Swaney the lack of a budget for other areas of the state affects schools as well.
“Schools do have a lot of partnerships with social service agencies and others. Some of those services have been diminished, if not eliminated, in certain parts of the state,” he said.
Jontry added if you’re wondering what you can do to help, contact local legislators to express your concerns.
