NORMAL – Destihl Brewery broke ground Wednesday on its new facility at 1200 Greenbriar Dr. in Normal.
Founder Matt Potts said the 47,000 sq. ft. building is expected to be finished by January or February next year, but it will be awhile after that before they officially open.
“This week is extremely exciting, really dream come true type of stuff,” said Potts. “Really what we’ve been working for years is to make it to this point – to do a really large production brewery project.”
Once operational, Potts explained they’ll be producing about 30,000 barrels of beer a year at the facility.
“Our brew house that we’re getting with this project is capable of brewing up to 100,000 barrels, but easily expandable up to 150,000 barrels,” Potts said.
Potts added the current site is on six acres, but they have an option of buying another six acres for more expansion. Destihl will be hiring about 50 more people to work at the brewery.
