SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Bruce Rauner is out and about just days after the legislature and himself failed to find compromise on budget for the coming fiscal year.
Rauner has been extremely pointed in criticism of Democrats and the Speaker of the House. But did he cross a line when speaking to a group in Vienna? Rauner took issue with efforts in the Senate and House to pass education reforms that would have sent more money to school districts around the state including the Chicago Public Schools.
“The Senate and the House were competing with each other on who can spend more to bail out Chicago with your tax dollars from Southern Ill and Central Illinois and Moline and Rockford and Danville, the communities of this state with hard working families that are paying their taxes,” Rauner said. .
Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel said after hearing the comments “schools across Illinois need a leader, and instead Rauner is following the Donald Trump playbook of demonizing one group of people for his political advantage.”
