NAPERVILLE – In his rise from high school wrestling coach to U.S. Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert racked up a trophy case or two worth of honors. Now some of those honors literally aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on.
Naperville’s North Central College has stripped the disgraced former congressman of his honorary degree as a result of his conviction in a hush-money case. Hastert received an honorary doctor of laws degree when he delivered the school’s commencement address in 2004.
Northern Illinois University also recently voted to strip Hastert of an honorary doctorate and they removed his name from the school’s Center for Economics, Government, and Public Policy.
