BLOOMINGTON – Connect Transit is preparing a pilot program to connect some areas which will be left without bus service when its new route system is operational.
General Manager Andrew Johnson said they’re proposing having buses run to those outlying areas during certain parts of the day.
“We got very positive public feedback from that, so people are excited about that,” said Johnson. “We’re looking at running that as a peak-type service in the mornings and late afternoon or evening.”
Some of the disconnected areas include north Normal and south Bloomington. Connect Transit had been considering a program which would have allowed passengers to take Uber for a discounted rate to the nearest bus stop.
Johnson said the proposed pilot program, which will be voted on next month by the Board of Trustees, will cost about $30,000.
