SPRINGFIELD – Drivers this weekend will do best to heed the speed limit.

Illinois State Police will be out in full force keeping watch over Memorial Day travel. The Illinois Department of Transportation and ISP say be ready for more traffic enforcement zones and road side safety checks. Patrols will especially be strong during the nighttime hours. IDOT’s Brian Williamson said police will be checking to make sure everyone is buckled up.

“When you are in a vehicle yo need to have a seat belt on whether you are in the front seat or the back seat,” Williamson said.

Memorial Day weekend can be a deadly one on the roadways. Last year 13 people died in traffic crashes.

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
