NORMAL – The Connect Transit Board of Trustees has unanimously approved a new bus route structure.
The board made the vote Tuesday after deciding to table the decision a few weeks ago. General Manager Andrew Johnson said the time between then and now was productive.
“We made sure that we got out and talked to even more people. (We) talked to a lot of the people who had concerns prior as well and were able to put a number of those concerns at rest,” he said.
Johnson explained the new routes will be a work in progress.
“Making a change of this magnitude might require some adjustments as we go along, but I think at this point we need to put the plan in place and see how it goes,” said Johnson. “We are committed to being flexible on that. If we see that something isn’t working we will work to change that.”
Johnson realized not everyone in the community supports the changes. He added they will be doing community outreach during the summer to help make the transition to the new routes as smooth as possible.
The new routes can be viewed here. Connect Transit will likely begin the new system in mid-August.
