BLOOMINGTON – McLean County State’s Attorney Jason Chambers has some concerns with marijuana legalization.
Chambers told WJBC’s Dan Swaney states with legalized pot have shown an increase in DUI fatalities where the drug was involved.
“You put aside all the issues of benefits. You put aside the issues of if it should be a misdemeanor, felony, all that stuff,” said Chambers. “My number one thing on just about every issue is, is something going to save lives or is it going to cost lives.”
Chambers added regardless of whether pot is legal or not, it does alter your ability to drive.
“People need to be very cognizant of that,” he said.
Chambers before more states, like Illinois, continue pushing for marijuana legalization they need to consider the long term impacts.
