SPRINGFIELD – American Idol may be gone but singers will have a place to compete at county fairs this summer and if they play their cards right, the Illinois State Fair.
The fair has announced creation of a statewide karaoke contest that will conclude with one winner singing two songs ahead of the Little Big Town concert at State Fair Grandstand August 20 as well as another show at the DuQuoin State Fair.
Regional contests will be held at eight county fairs across the state. Entries are limited to singers 18 and over and they must be solo acts. Registration opens Monday at noon at Illinoisstatefair.info.

June 20: Jasper County Fair (Newton)
June 22: Greene County Fair (Carrollton)
June 23: Henry County Fair (Cambridge)
June 25: Perry County Fair (Pinckneyville)
June 29: Schuyler County Fair (Rushville)
July 3: Grundy County Fair (Morris)
July 11: Heart of Illinois Fair (Peoria)
