With dog flu spreading through the area, one local pet day care is taking many precautions to keep its furry clients safe.
Deenie Williams of Deenie’s Bed and Biscuit in Bloomington tells WJBC’s Scott Laughlin so far, so good at her facility.
“At this point, we have not seen anything,” said Williams, “but we are only sticking with our clients and not taking new clients.”
Williams says although she has not yet seen dog flu at her facility, she’s taking extra steps to keep it that way with thorough daily cleaning.
“We spray the outside play areas at the end of the day,” said Williams. “We stay late just to disinfect outside, inside, everything. It gets into air vents so you have to open them up and clean them out. It’s a big process.”
Williams says she closely watches the 75 to 100 dogs she cares for daily and is ready to take quick action.
“We would instantly call the owner and their veterinarian, then alert our vet so that the dog could get swabbedss,” said Williams. “They can send it to Champaign or upstate New York where it can be tested.”
Williams says she asks current clients to keep dogs at home if they visit a dog park or other area where the flu could spread.
