SPRINGFIELD – A new report from the Civic Federation recommends Illinois increase taxes and cut spending to balance the fiscal 2017 budget.
The report claims Gov. Bruce Rauner’s revenue projections aren’t realistic. Civic Federation President Laurence Msall estimated that Illinois will bring in $32 billion this year but spend $36 billion.
Msall said the Civic Federation is looking at what can be done to balance the budget, including tax increases.
A spokeswoman said Rauner is focused on shrinking state spending rather than raising new taxes.
