Obituary: Rathbun

Colfax – Doris Ann Rathbun, 77, of Colfax, passed away at 3:00pm, Sunday, April 17, 2016 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

Her funeral will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax. Pastor John Rayford will be officiating.

Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax.

Visitation will be held from 5-7:00pm, Wednesday, April 20, 2016 also at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Doris was born October 17, 1938 in Henry the daughter of Corliss and Ethel Taylor Ingels.

She married Charles Howard Rathbun on April 25, 1959 in Colfax. He died on July 21, 1998.

Surviving are her daughters, Dee Ann (Jack) Winterland of Colfax and Tracy Lynne Evans of Normal; sons, Michael Howard (Michelle) Rathbun of Danvers and Mitchell Cory Rathbun of Bloomington; sister, Susan (Harold) Landrus of Cleveland, TN; brother Roger (Nancy) Ingels of Galva; grandchildren, Stephanie (Andrew) Harper, Tiffany (Ryan) Myers, Brandon (Rachael) Evans, Ross Evans, Sophie Evans, Michael Rathbun, Sara Rathbun, John Rathbun, Courtney Rathbun, Lydia Rathbun; great-grandchildren, Annalyn and Alec Harper, Holden Myers, and two great-grandsons on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and two nephews.

Doris graduated from Henry-Senachwine High School in 1956 and then graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1959 with an RN degree.

She was a Colfax resident for about 45 years before moving to Normal in 2006.

She enjoyed many hobbies and volunteer work for several organizations such as American Red Cross, Star Literacy  and Power Prison Ministry.

Doris worked at the Accident and Sports Clinic and worked as an RN at St. James and Fairbury Hospitals and Heritage Manor in Colfax. She was also an EMT for the Eastern McLean County Ambulance Association.

Doris was of the Christian faith and taught Sunday school and bible studies for many years. She was most passionate about her missionary trips to India where she utilized her skills and faith to teach health and hygiene practices and spread the word of God.
