SPRINGFIELD – The General Assembly is in its final two months of this session and State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) believed lawmakers are heading the same direction they were last year.
“The Democrats are going to pass an unbalanced budget. The governor is going to be forced to deal with that,” said Brady. “Just don’t see the cooperation we’d like to see from the Democrats on creating a balanced budget.”
Gov. Bruce Rauner rejected the unbalanced spending plan lawmakers sent him last year.
“It’s the legislature’s job to give the governor a balanced budget,” said Brady. “They may not agree with the governor, or all of us Republicans on how that money should be spent, but it’s irresponsible for the supermajority leadership in both the House and the Senate to abdicate their responsibilities to pass a balanced budget.”
Illinois is in its 10th month without a state spending plan.
