NORMAL – More than 1200 people took part in the inaugural MCstrong 5k classic and the mother of Michael Collins hopes the number will be even larger this year.
Kelly Collins tells WJBC’s Scott Laughlin Saturday marks two years since the local college student died from his injuries following an accident caused by a drunk and drugged driver.
In his honor, registration is open for the annual M-C-strong 5-k classic that takes place on April 23rd. Collins says she only expected a small number of participants last year.
“250. And then it got to 500 and it got to 750 and we had probably 100 walk up on the day of so we reached a little over 1200 on the day.”
Several organizations benefit from the annual event including those that help with drunk driving prevention and organ donation. You can register at MCstrong.org.
