BLOOMINGTON – Progress is being made as McLean County prepares to expand its jail.
Sheriff Jon Sandage told WJBC’s Terry James they expect to break ground on the expansion a year from now.
“There’s been some preliminary meetings now with the architects. Surveyors have been out looking at the site and seeing what utilities are underground and what might need to be moved,” said Sandage. “The ball is rolling, so it’s exciting.”
The jail expansion will include more room for the care of inmates with mental health issues. Sandage noted the project is being funded by bonds taken out by the Public Building Commission.
