NORMAL – Local officials got an update Tuesday on Illinois’ Chicago-to-St. Louis high speed rail upgrade project.
Illinois Department of Transportation Passenger Rail Marketing Manager Scott Speegle said the plan is to complete the project in 2017.
The Town of Normal will be seeing a lot beginning this summer. The largest project would be the beginning of construction on a second platform at Uptown Station.
“We’re still working out some of the details with the city, as well as with the FRA (Federal Railroad Administration), so those haven’t been completed yet,” said Speegle. “We’re hoping to be able to get that resolved and then get started on those.”
Work is also planned in Bloomington, Lexington, and Towanda this spring and summer.
The entire project carries a $1.95 billion budget.
